Production

Experience. Knowhow. Engagement.

SPORTISCA turfs are produced at our state-of-the-art tufting mill in Switzerland. SPORTISCA develops and produces the turfs from beginning to end. Thereby, we control the production process every step of the way. And we only market products we fully believe in.

Technology

SPORTISCA is made with tufting technology. Tufting technology refers to the process of producing three-dimensional textile surfaces. Needles are used to introduce the filaments (blades of grass) that form the pile into a fabric base where they are anchored on the underside. The surface material, therefore, is stitched in, not woven in or tied in. This makes production efficient.

How the athletic turf is made

With tufting technology needles are used to insert barber pole yarn into the backing material. The needles are positioned over the entire width of the material and all pierce the backing material simultaneously. Before the needles are pulled back through, the inserted yarn is held with a looper. This produces loops on the top side of the tufting fabric. When feeding the yarn through, the length of the loops can be adjusted. In this way, different types of pile layers (T-1, T-2, T-3/4) can be generated depending on the product. To create a turf that resembles grass, the loops are sheared down to the looper.

Attaching and creating layers

In order to attach the barber pole yarn once it has been pulled through, the yarn is secured on the underside in a complex coating process. The coating and the backing material (reinforced in SPORTISCA products with an additional stabilising backing) form the T-Back™ backing. The yarn layers T-1 and T-2 are layers that support the actual turf surface T-3 or T-4 and together form the T-Turf™.
